What Arabic dictionaries do I use?

Any Arabic language learner is faced with the need to use a dictionary as soon as they finish learning the alphabet and writing. I will talk about dictionaries that I use myself.

1. Reverso Dictionary – is the best Arabic dictionary for both beginners and advanced.

This project was founded by French developers and is being developed by international team. I admire their work!

In the dictionary you will find not only the meanings of words, but also their use in context, as well as transcription, audio dubbing and other useful notes. By the way, this dictionary works with many pairs of languages, including German, Turkish, French and many others.

For complete convenience of using the dictionary at any time, you can install a mobile application on your smartphone – see the links to applications on the main page of the Reverso Dictionary.

2. Almaany – professional dictionary for advanced linguists

This site was created on the basis of the legendary Arabic dictionary “Lisan al-Arab” by Ibn Manzur, created in the 13th century, which remains one of the most popular explanatory dictionaries of the Arabic language today. Thanks to modern technologies, this dictionary has received an electronic representation, that allows it to grow and develop.

The dictionary allows you to determine the etymology of Arabic words in Arabic. That is why this dictionary is invaluable for translators and linguists studying Arabic in depth, but for beginners in Arabic it will hardly be useful.
